This book is the first of a 3-volume collection that illustrates some species that make up the rich birdlife of the state of Paraná, where a total of 744 species are estimated to occur. The bird chosen for the cover is the Araucaria Tit-Spinetail, symbol bird of Curitiba, capital of the state. The Araucaria Tit-Spinetail maintains a close symbiosis relationship with the Araucaria pine and only lives on this species of tree. There the little bird finds protection and also all kinds of food, such as larvae and small butterflies, that are caught while moving in the middle of the branches or on short and graceful chase flights. The tree, on the other hand, has its fronds free from insects and, furthermore, receives great help from the bird in pollination. These and other numerous facts and curiosities are reported in the text of ornithologist Fernando C Straube, which accompany 156 photos of the award-winning photographer Marcelo Krause.
